Right to work
Refugees with a valid S permit ("persons in need of protection") are entitled to temporary residence in Switzerland and may also work without a waiting period.
Workers from non-EU/EFTA countries or so-called third countries such as Ukraine require a work permit before taking up and changing jobs. Applications for a work permit with an S permit are examined "favorably" by the responsible cantonal offices. However, a job offer alone is no guarantee that a work permit will be granted.
Competent authority for work permit
The work permit can only be applied for by the employer at the cantonal migration and labor market authority. In the canton of Zurich, for example, you must register your new worker with the cantonal "Office for Economy and Labor". A permit application is required, which, according to the directive of the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), will be examined "favorably and without much administrative effort". For this purpose, the economic offices offer a form "Stellenantritt" (start of employment), which has to be submitted together with a copy of the foreigner's identity card S, the identity card or the passport as well as the mutually signed employment contract.
Administrative information
Refugees often had to leave everything behind hastily and may not be able to provide a CV, references or application documents. Nevertheless, you should ask for such documents and request the S-identification card. Make a copy of the S-ID card and also of the passport and/or identity card when you set a contract. Important to know: The S-ID card is not a proof of the holder's identity.
At quitt the Ukrainian person can be registered with the residence permit "S". After successful registration of the employment relationship, the order of the AHV number at the competent compensation office is also taken over.
Tax liability
As a rule, refugees and persons with an S permit must also pay withholding taxes. Based on questions about the employee, quitt automatically determines whether your domestic helper is liable to pay withholding tax. If this is the case, quitt automatically registers the domestic help with the responsible cantonal tax authority, forwards all necessary information about the employment and living situation to this authority and stores the applicable withholding tax rate in your personal customer account.
Looking for a household help
On our specially programmed placement website, job-seeking cleaners can register free of charge - even people with S status. Employers can search the website https://quitt.ch/gesucht-putzfrau free of charge for suitable persons in their area. If interested, employers can also search specifically for people with refugee status. Profiles of job seekers with refugee status each have a special visual marker in the form of protective hands in the search results.
