The State Secretariat for Migration (SEM) designates EU/EFTA nationals who reside in an EU/EFTA state and work in Switzerland as cross-border commuters. Cross-border commuters usually return to their main foreign residence daily or at least once a week.
Cross-border commuters from EU/EFTA member states enjoy professional and geographical mobility. No border zones apply to them. They can therefore live anywhere in the EU/EFTA and work anywhere in Switzerland, the only condition being a weekly return to their foreign place of residence.
EU-27 countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden.
