The family allowance should partly compensate the costs that arise for parents in relation to dependent children. Employees with children can apply for family allowances from the family compensation fund via their employer.
There is one allowance per child. Depending on the age, there is either a child allowance or an education allowance. The amount of the allowance varies slightly from canton to canton.
If your employee has an income of at least CHF 7,350 per year or CHF 612 per month, he or she is entitled to family allowances. The application for family allowances is submitted by the employer.
If an employee has several employers, the employer with the highest salary is responsible for the application and payment of the allowances.

Please note:
In the simplified SVA procedure, the allowances are paid only once per year – normally at the end of the first quarter of the following year.
In the regular accounting procedure, the allowances are paid quarterly.
It takes about 8-10 weeks for the competent authority to issue the order for family allowances.
